Chairs of the Fraser Basin Council
Iona Campagnolo served as the first Chair of the Fraser Basin Council
from 1997 until her appointment as British Columbia's first woman Lieutenant-Governor
in 2001. Her Honour was succeeded by Dr. Jack Blaney, former president
of Simon Fraser University. Dr. Blaney resigned from the Council to
be the Chair of the Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform. In May
2003, Patrick Reid, former Commissioner-General of Expo 86 and Chairman
of the Rick Hansen Man-In-Motion Foundation, was appointed as the new
Chair of the Council. Dr. Jago succeeds Mr.
Patrick Reid, and began his term officially in June 2006. During his
tenure of eleven years as the President of the University of Northern BC,
Dr. Jago has overseen significant growth and development of UNBC. As
a passionate advocate for the North, he played a significant role in the
creation of a Northern Medical Program that is key to addressing the shortage
of doctors in rural British Columbia.
