BuySmart Network

The BuySmart Network is a hub for people in business, government and non-profit organizations to learn and share information about sustainability purchasing and supply chain management.

BuySmart works with organizations of all types ― private, public and non-profit sector ― helping them create strategies to buy more sustainably and forge supply chains that reflect their own commitments to corporate social responsibility.

Formerly known as the Sustainability Purchasing Network (SPN), BuySmart is a program of the Fraser Basin Council.

BuySmart Goals

The goals of the BuySmart Network are to:

  • encourage demand for and use of products and services that support positive social, economic and environmental impacts, and
  • help organizations meet their strategic goals through sustainable procurement.

Activities and Participants

The BuySmart Network hosts a number of learning events. These are open to all individuals and organizations with an interest in sustainability purchasing.

The program draws together co-operatives, business associations, not-for-profits, governments (federal, provincial, local and First Nations), labour organizations, public sector organizations and academic institutions. Participants in learning events include purchasers, supply chain managers, office managers, sustainability or corporate social responsibility professionals, policy advisors, fleet managers and suppliers of products and services.

About the Fraser Basin Council

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is a charitable non-profit organization that brings people together to advance sustainability in the Fraser River Basin and throughout BC. Established in 1997, FBC is a collaboration of four orders of government (federal, provincial, local and First Nations) along with those from the private sector and civil society. We work with people in multiple sectors, helping them find collaborative solutions to today’s issues through a commitment to the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability. Our focus is on healthy water and watersheds, action on climate change and air quality and strong, resilient communities and regions.
