Innovations in Flood Management, the Environment and Sustainability
Can flood hazards be manged in a way that protects communities from harm and also minimizes adverse impacts on the environment? The Fraser Basin hosted a workshop on "Innovations in Flood Management, the Environment and Sustainability" on March 26, 2009 in Surrey. Almost 60 people from federal and provincial agencies, from local governments and from the private and non-profit sectors came together to discuss best management practices and innovative approaches to flood hazard management, habitat protection and environmental health. Thanks to all speakers and participants, as well as to Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program for funding. For a synopsis of the day, see the Workshop Report.
Several presentations are now available:
- Introduction - Steve Litke, Fraser Basin Council
- Improving Fish Access - Marc Gaboury and Bob Guerin, Musqueum First Nation
- Flooding and Fish - Alan Jonsson, Fisheries and Oceans Canada
