Pacific Salmon as a Symbol for British Columbia?
The Pacific Salmon Foundation and Fraser Basin Council are inviting the people of British Columbia to express their views on a proposal to designate wild Pacific salmon* as an official provincial symbol under the Provincial Honours and Symbols Act.
We want to hear what you think. Should Pacific salmon become BC's provincial fish, alongside other emblems, such as the Pacific Dogwood, the Kermode Bear and Western Red Cedar? Please share your views online by September 30, 2010 by visiting our Salmon as a Symbol comment page at www.thinksalmon.com.
The Pacific Salmon Foundation and Fraser Basin Council will post weekly updates of comments to read online. We will also relay submissions to the Province of British Columbia.
We look forward to hearing from you!
*Note on Pacific salmon:
The starting point for this discussion is that Chinook, Coho, Chum, Pink and Sockeye salmon, along with Steelhead trout and Cutthroat Trout, would be considered collectively as “Pacific salmon.”
