Transportation Demand Management
— a new program for local government

Transportation Demand Management for Small and Mid-Size Communities is a new program of the Fraser Basin Council to assist BC local governments – in particular those serving communities under 150,000 people – in planning sustainable transportation systems. Sustainable transportation offers multiple benefits, including the opportunity to save money, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and improve the quality of life for residents.

Transportation demand management (TDM) is aimed at reducing the overall number of drivers by diverting trips to other modes of transportation and shifting travel away from peak hours. TDM expands options for active transportation, such as cycling and walking, and for public transit and ride-sharing, while reducing overall vehicle use and the demand for road space.
