SPC News: Climate Action Wins at UBCM Convention

SPC Recognizes Climate Action Leadership of CEA Award Winners & Applicants

by Jennifer Nicholsposted on 2:39 PM, October 15, 2014

WHISTLER — Smart planning for Communities teamed up with the Community Energy Association (CEA) and Local Whistler to deliver news on BC Climate Action Leadership at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention in Whistler, BC.

CEATakingAction_Final.jpgSPC provided communications support at the UBCM Convention by creating an infographic summarizing the CEA Climate & Energy Action Award applicants.

The CEA Awards are given out annually to a municipality or regional district, implementing a project or program best integrating energy /climate planning into community planning processes, development, and collaborative strategies. The infographic helped delegates easily see the outstanding climate action achievements of their peers.

Delegates were invited to sign up to the Toolkit and CEA mailing lists to find out more BC local government climate action news. Those that signed up were entered into a prize draw generously donated by Local Whistler.

Local Whistler is a choose-local campaign that encourages people to choose locally owned and operated businesses.

SPC is a partner in the BC Climate Action Toolkit - an online resource  providing the latest news, best practices, practical advice, information, and strategic guidance to help BC local governments successfully reduce greenhouse gas emissions and, at the same time, strengthen their communities. The 15 outstanding applications for the CEA’s Climate & Energy Awards are featured on a climate action map with links to tools to help communities take climate action.

The BC Climate Action Toolkit is developed in collaboration by the Joint-UBCM-Provincial Green Communities Committee (GCC) and Smart Planning for Communities, a program of the Fraser Basin Council.
