Our Work in the Regions
Many sustainability issues in BC today are first experienced, and best understood, close to home.
To support local efforts for sustainability, the Fraser Basin Council has a regional committee and office in each of five regions of the Fraser Basin, as well as an office on Vancouver Island. We are honoured to be part of many initiatives that involve residents, regional and municipal governments, First Nations, businesses and community groups.
Here is a look at local projects, by region:
Building the Big Picture
Sometimes a broad-brush initiative really comes to life when rolled out in a community or region. Other times, it’s by working on issues of local concern that wider sustainability issues and trends emerge. That can mean opportunities for collaboration, for the benefit of all.
One example is invasive plants. FBC began exploring invasive plants regionally, in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. Yet this was a problem without boundaries! We were happy to support multiple interests in creating a province-wide strategy, and helping to launch the Invasive Plant Council of BC (now the Invasive Species Council of BC). Read about it.
