Balakrishnan (Bala) Venkata

Program Lead, Zero Emission Fleets

Balakrishnan (Bala) VenkataBalakrishnan (Bala) serves as Program Lead, Zero Emission Fleets for Plug in BC.

Bala is an automotive engineer/research analyst and sustainability enthusiast who has spent four years in research and business consulting for the automotive industry, having worked on various topics such as future of automotive technology, digital vehicle retail, future evolution of sedans and SUVs, while also compiling data for an automotive start-up database and supplier benchmarking study.

Apart from research and consulting, he was instrumental in the design and prototyping of a three wheeled cargo electric vehicle for use in collecting municipal waste. His contributions included reducing the materials required and time taken to fabricate the vehicle, while making it more compact and functional.

Balakrishnan holds a Master of Science degree in Automotive Systems Engineering from Loughborough University, U.K., and Bachelor of Technology in Automobile Engineering from SRM University, India.

With our partners, we work on a range of collaborative, multi-sector initiatives, such as those focused on flood management, community wildfire planning, air quality improvement, energy-efficient buildings, green transportation (including the uptake of electric vehicles and expansion of charging infrastructure), watershed planning and youth-driven climate action projects.
