Energy Efficiency and Community Economic Development

Peter Ostergaard participated in a workshop cosponsored by CMHC, the Community Energy Association, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District in Duncan on November 3. It focused on ways to link district energy and energy efficiency with community economic development. An afternoon charette identified energy potential sources and markets for a district energy system in the City of Duncan, which at only two square kilometers is BC’s fifth most densely populated municipality. postergaard@fraserbasin.bc.ca.

GHG Modelling Webcast Series

In March of this year, the Smart Planning for Communities program received a small contract from the Climate Action Secretariat to profile community-scale energy and greenhouse gas modelling tools. The cities of Colwood, Prince George, and North Vancouver, and the Central Kootenay and Fraser Valley regional districts, prepared case studies and a narrated webcast. The case studies and webcasts are available on the BC Climate Action Toolkit.

Peter Ostergaard is accepting comments in a post on the Livesmart Climate Leaders blog: http://www.livesmartbccommunity.ca. Not a member yet? Email Mark Haines: mark.haines@gov.bc.ca to join.

About the Fraser Basin Council

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is a charitable non-profit organization that brings people together to advance sustainability in British Columbia.

Where We Work

We are grateful to live and work on the unceded ancestral territories of the Indigenous Nations of British Columbia.

Our Vision

Social well-being supported by a vibrant economy and sustained by a healthy environment.

Strategic Priorities

At the Fraser Basin Council, our strategic priorities are to take action on climate change, support healthy watersheds and water resources, and build sustainable and resilient communities.

With our partners, we work on a range of collaborative, multi-sector initiatives, such as those focused on flood management, community wildfire planning, air quality improvement, energy-efficient buildings, green transportation (including the uptake of electric vehicles and expansion of charging infrastructure), watershed planning and youth-driven climate action projects.
