by Jennifer Nichols, posted on June 11, 2014

VILLAGE OF GRANISLE — The Village of Granisle is inviting local residents to provide input for a sustainability plan for the community. The sustainability planning process, called Granisle Revival, is underway.

Residents are invited to discuss what they value about the community and their vision for how they would like to see the community evolve. Community input will help form a long term plan for the Village of Granisle.

In a recent comment Mayor Linda McGuire said, “Engaging the community on various issues, including community planning is both crucial and beneficial moving forward. Community input is immeasurable and serves as a valuable tool for the Council of the day”

The Village will be inviting further community input to Granisle Revival on June 26, 2014 at 7:00p.m during a session at the Granisle Seniors Centre. They want to hear what is important to residents and what actions might be taken to make things better. Is it retaining youth, attracting medical staff, developing industry or something else? How to make progress on these priorities will also be discussed at the session.

by Jennifer Nichols, posted on May 7, 2014

DISTRICT OF 100 MILE HOUSE — The District of 100 Mile House is inviting local residents to provide input for a sustainability plan for the community.

Residents will be invited to discuss what they value about the community and their vision for how they would like to see the community evolve. Community input will help form a long term plan for 100 Mile House.

Discussions around local values and visions will cover most aspects of the community such as; economic stability, housing, seniors needs, recreational development and environmental management.

In a recent comment Mayor Mitch Campsall encouraged residents to participate in the planning process and look far ahead: “This is a great chance to envision what a prosperous, vibrant and sustainable 100 Mile House looks like to you. Think 50 years ahead – what kind of shared future do we want for our community?”

The process will be facilitated in partnership with the District by Smart Planning for Communities (SPC), a partnership program of the Fraser Basin Council. SPC Program Manager, Joan Chess, sees public engagement as a core step in the planning process, “Community input is so important in creating a plan with residents and community leaders, that can be used for several generations and truly prepare communities for a more sustainable future.”

SPC helps with evaluating outcomes of the Gas Tax Agreement

by Sonja Mulabdic, posted on January 11, 2014

In early 2014, the SPC team conducted a research study to help UBCM assess the status of BC local governments developing and implementing sustainability planning and meeting the Gas Tax Agreement requirements. SPC findings were integrated into UBCM’s recently published report GAS TAX AGREEMENT: Outcomes Report 2009-2012.

BC local governments (municipalities and regional districts) that receive Gas Tax funding are required by the Agreement to demonstrate that they are applying the sustainability elements or principles of Integrated Community Sustainability Planning (ICSP). SPC findings indicate that all BC local governments have met or have a clear timeline for meeting their ICSP requirement either by integrating sustainability principles in their Official Community Plans (OCP), Regional Growth Strategies (RGS), or by developing Integrated Sustainability Plans (ICSP) and other planning documents that have considered sustainability principles.
